Lakeland Motorist Dies After Semi-Truck Crash on Highway 98 North

Lakeland, Fla. — A fatal crash involving a semi-truck and a Lakeland resident happened on Friday afternoon off of U.S. Highway 98 North.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office reported that the collision happened when a 58-year-old driver in a Toyota Corolla struck the rear of a semi-truck hauling metal pipes from a local construction site. The semi-truck was attempting a turn onto the northbound side of the highway when the Toyota, approaching from the opposite direction, collided with its rear.

The driver of the Toyota was pronounced dead on-site. The identity of the victim has not yet been made public.
