Joseph Lesko Dies After Roof Truss Collapse at Putnam County Building Site

Baxter, Tenn. – A construction worker was fatally injured in an accident at a construction site in Putnam County on Wednesday afternoon. The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office has identified the victim as Joseph Lesko, a 41-year-old resident of Putnam County.

Lesko was part of a team working on a new residential construction project near Maxwell Road. He was on the roof when a truss in a temporary holding position collapsed, creating a chain reaction that caused multiple trusses to fall. The impact of the collapsing trusses was overwhelming and could not be withstood.

Lesko was pronounced dead on the scene.

Workplace Safety Failures Need to be Investigated

Construction sites can be dangerous places, but no worker should lose their life due to preventable safety failures. The sudden loss of Joseph Lesko, a 41-year-old construction worker, raises serious questions about the safety protocols that were—or should have been—in place at this Putnam County worksite.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, more construction workers died on the job in 2022 than in any other industry sector. Many of these deaths, including those involving falling objects like roof trusses, could have been prevented with proper safety measures.

When temporary bracing fails during truss installation, the consequences can be catastrophic, creating a devastating domino effect as multiple trusses collapse. The family deserves to know: Were proper temporary bracing techniques used? Had the bracing been inspected? Was the installation sequence followed correctly? These critical questions need answers.

While employers may hesitate to disclose all details, families have legal tools to uncover the full story. Through a thorough investigation, professionals can determine whether proper safety protocols were followed and whether this tragedy could have been prevented.

Mr. Lesko’s family deserves more than sympathy. They deserve a complete understanding of what went wrong and assurance that those responsible will be held accountable. This knowledge will not only help bring justice but can also prevent similar tragedies from happening to other families.
