Fatal Motorcycle Accident: Jeffrey Hurl, 60, Dies in Collision with Box Truck at Columbus Road Intersection in Licking County, Ohio

Licking County, Ohio – A fatal collision involving a motorcycle and a box truck occurred Wednesday afternoon near Granville. Deputies responded to the crash at the intersection of Columbus Road and Silver

The motorcyclist, identified as 60-year-old Jeffrey Hurl, was pronounced dead at the scene.

No additional details have been released.

Crashes between large trucks and smaller vehicles must be investigated

This fatal crash serves as a sobering reminder of the vulnerability of motorcycle riders. Regarding motorcycle versus truck collisions, the outcome is often catastrophic for the rider.

According to one study, motorcyclists are 27 times more likely to die in crashes than occupants of passenger vehicles. While a box truck can weigh up to 26,000 pounds, the average motorcycle weighs only around 700 pounds. This is why truck drivers need to drive safely. Did this happen here?

While initial reports may be limited, commercial truck data can reveal crucial details about the moments leading up to the crash. These include electronic logging devices (ELDs) that track speed, braking patterns, and driver hours. Trucking companies also maintain detailed maintenance records, driver qualification files, and training documentation, all of which can paint a clearer picture of potential contributing factors to this incident.

If answers are slow to emerge, legal tools like depositions can help families uncover vital information. These investigative methods can reveal whether the truck followed proper safety protocols.

While nothing can undo this tragedy, a thorough investigation using available commercial vehicle data and legal resources can help provide the family with any lingering questions or doubts they may have.

May the family get the answers they need.
