Douglas Lodge Dies After Disabled Vehicle Hit by Semi-Truck on Interstate 70

Madison County, Ill. – Authorities have identified Douglas Lodge, a 43-year-old man from St. Louis, Missouri, as the victim of a fatal crash that occurred in the early morning hours of Friday on Interstate 70.

According to reports, Lodge was driving eastbound when his vehicle collided with a guardrail, leaving it disabled in the left lane when a tractor-trailer struck Lodge’s car.

Lodge was transported to Anderson Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

No additional details have been provided.

The truck driver and company must answer for the suffering they caused

Mr. Lodge’s family deserves answers about what happened that morning. Why didn’t the truck driver see their loved one’s disabled vehicle in time to avoid it? Was the truck driver following too closely? Was he driving too fast for the conditions? These are questions that need to be answered, and the family deserves justice for their devastating loss.

Truck drivers have a special duty to drive safely because their vehicles are so much bigger and heavier than cars. They need to stay far enough back from other vehicles to stop in time if something goes wrong up ahead. This is even more important in the early morning hours when it might be harder to see.

When truck drivers and companies are held accountable for their actions on the road, it helps prevent future tragedies. Accountability not only gives families a path to healing — it sends a clear message that putting safety first isn’t optional. It’s the only way to stop these preventable deaths on our highways.
