Fatal Tire Blowout Claims Melbourne Woman’s Life on I-95: Florida Highway Patrol

Palm Bay, FL – A 78-year-old woman from Melbourne lost her life in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 95. The incident occurred Sunday morning near the Palm Bay Road exit.

Florida Highway Patrol reports that the woman was traveling northbound in a 2008 Ford F-250 when the truck’s right front tire experienced a blowout. This caused the vehicle to veer off the roadway onto the grassy shoulder, colliding with two trees and a nearby fence.

Emergency responders pronounced the driver deceased at the scene. Her identity has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.

The failed tire needs to be examined to determine the cause of its failure

When a tire blowout occurs, many assume it’s due to road conditions, poor maintenance, or bad luck. However, this is not always the case. Tire failures are frequently caused by manufacturing defects, meaning the issue lies entirely with the manufacturer—not the vehicle owner or the road.

Defective tires often display clear signs of poor craftsmanship. For instance, poor bonding occurs when smooth patches form between the tire’s layers, caused by internal components rubbing together during use. Similarly, sloppy construction, where the internal parts are misaligned, creates weak points prone to failure. When a manufacturer produces a defective tire that leads to an accident, they have failed to create a safe product.

But unfortunately, manufacturers rarely admit fault willingly. They often attempt to shift blame or distance themselves from the incident, leaving victims and their families to bear the burden of the tragedy. This is deeply unfair to the person who lost their life and to their loved ones.

That’s why proper support is critical. This type of crash requires an investigation by experienced tire defect attorneys specializing in these complex cases. Police reports often fail to identify the underlying causes of an accident, making it crucial for a trained expert to examine the tire thoroughly.

Police reports do not always uncover underlying issues, so it is important for a trained expert to examine the tire in question and for trained tire defect attorneys who have handled this type of crash to investigate. They are complicated cases, and the tire manufacturer will do everything possible to avoid liability.

We hope the surviving family finds the help they deserve and need.
