Worker Airlifted After Electric Shock at Falmouth Massachusetts Construction Site

Falmouth, Mass. — A construction worker suffered serious injuries from an electric shock at a job site on Main Street and was airlifted to a nearby hospital for treatment. The incident happened on Wednesday afternoon.

Authorities said the shock occurred when a crane was maneuvering two large steel beams. As the worker grabbed one of the beams, the other came into contact with an overhead power line, delivering the electrical charge. The impact caused the worker to fall ten feet to the ground.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has been notified.

No updates on the worker’s condition have been released.

Worksite safety protocols need to be investigated

Workplace accidents involving electricity can cause devastating, life-altering injuries, requiring extensive medical treatment and long-term rehabilitation. According to the OSH Act’s General Duty Clause, employers must ensure their workplaces are free from hazards that could cause serious harm or death to employees. Was this clause enforced at this site?

Construction sites must maintain rigorous safety protocols when working near power lines. A thorough investigation is crucial to determine what went wrong. Were proper clearance distances maintained? Was there adequate site planning and safety training? These questions demand clear answers for a worker facing a potentially lengthy recovery.

Construction accidents like this often reveal systemic safety failures. Professional investigators need to examine whether proper procedures were in place for crane operations near power lines, whether workers received adequate training, and whether the construction site was organized to minimize risks. Understanding these factors is especially crucial given the serious nature of electrical injuries and the long recovery path the worker faces.

The injured worker and their family deserve to know if this life-changing incident resulted from preventable safety failures. Their future depends on getting these answers.
