One Dead After Crash with a Stopped Semi-truck on Interstate 75 in Shelby County, Ohio

Shelby County, OH – A fatal crash involving a semi-truck occurred early Friday morning on I-75 northbound.

Initial reports indicate that a Jeep veered off the right side of the road and collided with a semi-truck parked on the shoulder. The driver of the Jeep was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders.

No additional information has been released.

Further investigation can determine why the truck was parked on the side of a busy highway and if a dangerous condition led to this crash

This crash between a Jeep and a parked semi-truck on Interstate 75 in Shelby County highlights a recurring issue that demands attention. Trucks parked on the shoulder of busy highways pose a serious danger to other motorists. Authorities and industry professionals need to determine exactly why the truck was parked and if the trucker is at least partially responsible for this accident.

Many people might assume the Jeep driver is solely at fault here. But we have to ask – why was that semi-truck parked on the shoulder in the first place? Shoulders aren’t meant to be parking spots, especially on high-speed interstates. Truck drivers know that even a small mistake by a passing vehicle can lead to disaster. Despite this knowledge, we see this same crash occur all across the country.

In one case we handled, a man died after hitting a truck parked near moving traffic. The trucking company tried to shift all blame to the deceased driver, alleging that they had no choice but to park on the highway because the truck suffered a flat tire.

However, our investigation uncovered that the tire that failed was worn and repeatedly refilled with air to extend its life.  The company’s choice to put profits over safety allowed the truck to break down on the highway and ultimately left a family without a husband and father.

We need to dig deeper here. Why did the truck driver stop? Was there a mechanical issue that could have been prevented? Or was the driver just taking an ill-advised break? The trucking company likely has crucial information – driver logs, maintenance records, and even dash cam footage. Getting these details through the legal process can reveal the full story.

Uncovering the truth does more than just provide closure for those hurt in this crash. It helps make roads safer for everyone by holding dangerous practices accountable. I hope those affected get the professional help they need to find real answers and move forward.
