Tire Blowout Causes a Deadly Crash with a Semi-Truck and SUV on Florida’s Turnpike in Florida

Kenansville, FL — A crash on Friday involving a semi-truck and an SUV resulted in one person losing their life.

According to FHP, the crash occurred when a 2012 Chevrolet Captiva Sport, traveling southbound in the inside lane, experienced a tire blowout. The driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer onto the left shoulder and strike the center guardrail. The impact forced the SUV to swerve back across the road, partially blocking the outside lane and shoulder.

The SUV driver exited the vehicle and was struck by a 2019 semi-truck traveling southbound in the outside lane. The semi-truck collided with both the driver and the rear left of the SUV before veering off the road, hitting a cable barrier, and overturning into a ditch.

The driver of the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene.

An inspection of the tire will determine what caused it to fail

When a tire blowout leads to such a devastating outcome, it’s easy to chalk it up to bad luck or routine wear and tear. But often, the situation is more complicated. Sometimes, tires fail because they’re defective.

Blowouts aren’t always caused by road conditions or poor maintenance. In fact, we’ve seen several instances where tires have failed far sooner than expected, posing a danger to everyone on the road. Tire manufacturers are responsible for ensuring their products are safe and reliable, but they don’t always meet this obligation.

The failed tire needs to be thoroughly inspected to truly understand what went wrong. This could uncover manufacturing flaws that led to its premature failure. Were there structural issues? Was there a defect in the materials used? A careful investigation can answer these critical questions.

Uncovering the truth about the tire is essential for the family impacted by this tragic crash. They deserve to know if a defective tire played a role in their loved one’s death. While this knowledge won’t lessen their grief, it could lead to safer tires in the future and hold the manufacturer accountable for any failures.

Finding these answers isn’t always straightforward. Tire manufacturers often resist admitting when their products are flawed. But with the right expertise and legal resources, it’s possible to uncover the truth and ensure those responsible are held accountable.

We hope the surviving find the support they need during this difficult time and that the investigation provides the answers they deserve regarding the cause of this tragic blowout.
