One person Injured in a Crash Between an SUV and a Parked Semi-truck on Interstate 90 in Schaumburg, Illinois

Schaumburg, Ill. – One person was injured in a collision between an SUV and a parked semi-truck. The incident happened on Thursday on Interstate 90 in Schaumburg.

Illinois State Police reported that the semi-truck was parked on the shoulder when a gray Chevrolet SUV collided with its trailer around 4:45 p.m.

The SUV driver sustained injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

No additional details have been released.

Further investigation can determine why the truck was parked on the side of a busy highway

Trucks parked on the shoulder of busy highways pose a serious danger to other motorists. This crash between an SUV and a parked semi-truck on Interstate 90 in Schaumburg highlights a recurring issue that demands attention. Authorities and industry professionals need to provide clear answers about why these risky situations keep happening.

Many people might assume the SUV driver is solely at fault here. But we have to ask – why was that semi-truck parked on the shoulder in the first place? Shoulders aren’t meant to be parking spots, especially on high-speed interstates. Truck drivers know that even a small mistake by a passing vehicle can lead to disaster.

I’ve seen this scenario play out too many times. In one case we handled, a man died after hitting a truck parked near moving traffic. The trucking company tried to shift all blame to the deceased driver. But our investigation uncovered that the truck had a chronically underinflated tire. Instead of replacing it, the company kept temporarily refilling it to save money. Their choice to put profits over safety left a family without a husband and father.

We need to dig deeper here. Why did the truck driver stop? Was there a mechanical issue that could have been prevented? Or was the driver just taking an ill-advised break? The trucking company likely has crucial information – driver logs, maintenance records, even dash cam footage. Getting these details through the legal process can reveal the full story.

Uncovering the truth does more than just provide closure for those hurt in this crash. It helps make roads safer for everyone by holding dangerous practices accountable. I hope those affected get the professional help they need to find real answers and move forward.
