Michael Gosnell Killed, Son Paralyzed in Crash on Highway 34 in Albany, Oregon

Albany, Ore. — A crash on Highway 34 has claimed the life of a father and left his son paralyzed.

According to Oregon State Police, the crash occurred near Steckley Road when a Ford Fusion entered the father and son’s lane and collided with it.

The father was pronounced dead at the scene, while his teenage son suffered severe injuries. The boy’s mother shared that her son’s spinal cord was severed, leaving him paralyzed from the chest down.

No additional details have been released.

The extent of injuries needs to be investigated

When serious crashes like this happen, surviving families are left asking why and how this could have happened. But when injuries are so severe they cause death and paralysis, there’s another critical question: did the injuries have to be so severe? This is crucial to understand because some vehicles may not protect their passengers as well as they should, often due to design flaws. When this happens, the family deserves answers.

Modern vehicles have safety features designed to protect passengers during accidents, such as airbags and reinforced structures. However, when severe injuries occur, it’s essential to investigate whether these safety systems worked as intended or failed. Important questions to ask are: Was the car equipped with the latest safety features? Did they function properly, or was there a mechanical or design flaw that worsened the injuries? If defects are found, the manufacturer may be responsible for the injuries suffered.

Uncovering the truth about what caused these serious injuries is not about pointing fingers; it’s about safety and accountability. It’s about helping the affected get justice and preventing similar tragedies. We hope everyone impacted by this incident finds the support and answers they need during this difficult time.
