Jay Bone Fatally Struck in a Semi-Truck Crash on MO State Highway O in Newland, Missouri

Newland, Mo. – A Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) worker died after being struck by a semi-truck. The incident happened Tuesday afternoon along MO State Highway O in Pettis County.

According to authorities, an 18-year-old was driving a 2005 Peterbilt 379 when he hit 60-year-old Jay Bone, a senior MoDOT maintenance worker.

No additional details have been released.

Thoughts on fatal large truck accidents

After a fatal accident, the family left behind often struggles to rebuild their lives while seeking to understand how the tragedy occurred. They may feel frustrated and angry toward the responsible party, especially if the initial information they provide is incomplete. In these difficult times, professionals can assist in uncovering the full story beyond what authorities initially report, helping the family find the answers and closure they need.

Both the truck driver and the trucking company can offer valuable details about what led to the crash. The driver is often the only direct witness, and the trucking company can provide critical evidence, such as dash cam footage or data on the truck’s speed and braking, to shed light on the moments before the collision.

In many cases, responsibility goes beyond the driver. If the trucking company was aware of, or should have known about, the driver’s dangerous behavior, they, too, must be held accountable. Proper screening and monitoring of drivers is crucial in preventing accidents like these. Were previous warnings or complaints ignored?

Trucking companies and insurers often try to limit their liability by offering quick settlements, hoping to keep important details out of the public eye. However, the family deserves to know the whole truth and all who are at fault here.

We hope this grieving family can find the answers and support they need to begin healing and move forward.
