Cameron Powell of Vidor, Texas, Dies After a 60-foot Fall in an Industrial Accident at the Beaumont Clean Ammonia Plant in Jefferson County

Jefferson County, TX— A 36-year-old construction worker has died following a fall of 60 to 70 feet at an industrial site on Thursday morning. The incident happened at the Beaumont Clean Ammonia plant at the former Beaumont Works terminal off Twin City Highway.

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Cameron Powell fell while working inside a tank at the OCI-managed plant. Emergency crews responded to the scene, and Powell was transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Woodside Energy owns the Beaumont Clean Ammonia plant, and OCI oversees construction operations.

Thoughts on fatal workplace accidents

When a loved one dies in a workplace accident, families are left grieving and seeking answers. They want to know what went wrong and what could have been done differently to prevent the tragic incident. It’s common for families to feel like they aren’t getting the whole story about their loved one’s passing. When they feel like this, families have every right to demand more information beyond the initial reports provided.

But it’s not always easy to get additional information. Employers might withhold information, especially if safety failures are involved, and witnesses may fear speaking up due to potential retaliation or job loss.

Legal tools, like depositions, can help uncover the truth. They can reveal critical facts like whether proper equipment and protective gear were provided and whether workers were trained to use the equipment safely.

These details are essential. Not all work sites adhere to safety regulations, especially when they want to speed up production to save costs and time. When this happens, surviving families deserve to know the truth. Finding out what led to a fatal accident not only provides closure for the family but also helps prevent future tragedies by addressing unsafe practices.

We hope this family gets the support they need to find answers and peace during this difficult time.
