One Man Injured in a Multi-Vehicle Crash Involving a Semi-truck on Interstate 90 in Steuben County, Indiana

Steuben County, Ind. — A semi-truck passenger sustained non-life-threatening injuries in a crash on westbound I-90 on the Indiana Toll Road on Friday evening.

According to authorities, a 2020 Freightliner failed to slow down for stopped traffic caused by an earlier car fire. In an attempt to avoid hitting a stationary Ford F-150, the Freightliner sideswiped the truck and then crashed into the rear of a Mack semi-truck. The impact caused severe damage to the Freightliner’s cab, trapping both the driver and an adult male passenger.

Emergency crews from the Fremont Fire Department extricated the occupants from the wreckage.

Those injured in preventable truck crashes have a right to justice

When a semi-truck fails to stop in time, the consequences can be life-changing, leaving victims seeking answers. Why didn’t the truck stop? What comes next? And how do those injured find a way forward? It’s critical for authorities and professionals to step in and uncover the facts to bring clarity and justice to those affected.

There are many possible reasons why a large truck might not stop as expected. Finding the cause is key to understanding the incident and ensuring those impacted receive the answers they deserve.

The trucking company holds vital information on the minutes leading up to the crash.  They can provide records on the driver’s schedule, training, and whether safety protocols were followed. Additionally, the company might have dashcam footage or truck data showing speed, braking, and steering information. All of this helps create a clearer picture of what led to the crash and all parties who may be responsible.

Many times, the trucking company may not want to release all the details of what happened. This is where legal tools, like depositions, are valuable—they help dig deeper to get to the truth.

Uncovering all the details that led to the accident is vital, not only for the victims and their families but also to prevent future incidents by holding drivers and companies accountable. We hope those affected by this crash receive the support they need to find answers and begin the healing process during this difficult time.
