Liliana Rivera-Cruz Killed and Eighteen People Injured in a Bus Accident Linked to Tire Failure on Interstate 10 in Phoenix, Arizona

Phoenix, AZ- One person has died, and eighteen people sustained injuries in a bus accident caused by tire failure. The incident happened Saturday morning on Interstate 10 near Seventh Street in Phoenix.

According to reports, the commercial passenger bus was heading east when it experienced a tire malfunction, causing the vehicle to crash into the center median.

The impact of the crash caused one passenger to be ejected from the bus and sustain fatal injuries. The victim, identified as 39-year-old Liliana Rivera-Cruz from California, was traveling to the Phoenix area to visit her mother.

One person remains in critical condition, while 17 others sustained minor injuries.

No additional information on their condition has been released.

The cause of the tire failure must be investigated

When accidents like these occur, the impact on families, friends, and communities is beyond words. The loss of a loved one leaves unanswered questions, while those injured may face life-changing consequences and trauma. Authorities and professionals can help the affected individuals find the answers they need to move forward.

Tire blowouts do not always result from bad luck or normal wear and tear. Sometimes, they happen because of hidden defects or negligence, putting lives at risk. When a tire fails unexpectedly, it’s essential to investigate deeper to find the real cause.

We saw this firsthand in a case we handled a few years ago. A tour bus carrying over 50 passengers was traveling near Dallas when its front right tire failed. The resulting crash was catastrophic, killing 17 people and injuring many others. Our investigation revealed that the bus company had illegally mounted a retreaded tire, which is prohibited by law. Had the company followed regulations and installed new tires, the tragedy could have been avoided, and lives would have been saved.

Uncovering the truth is often challenging, as manufacturers are reluctant to admit product flaws. However, with the right legal tools—such as depositions and detailed inspections—it’s possible to reveal what really happened. This information helps victims find closure and encourages stricter safety standards in the industry.

For the family of the person who passed and those injured in this recent bus accident, we hope they receive the support and answers they need. Understanding what caused the tire failure can protect those directly affected and future drivers who may face similar risks.
