Fatal Crash Involving Semi-Truck and Garbage Truck Kills One Person and Injures Another in Tenafly, New Jersey

Tenafly, New Jersey —  A man died after being struck by a semi-truck in Tenafly on Monday morning. The collision involved a tractor-trailer and a garbage truck.

According to reports, a sanitation truck had been struck from behind by a northbound tractor-trailer while a worker collected trash from nearby residences.

The man, identified as a 23-year-old from North Arlington, was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other individuals— the garbage truck’s driver, a 54-year-old man from North Arlington, and another employee, a 69-year-old man from Union City—were transported to Englewood Health Medical Center for evaluation.

A spokesperson for OSHA confirmed that the agency is now involved.

Events leading to the fatal crash need to be investigated

Fatal crashes like this leave a grieving family and injured individuals asking difficult questions: How did this happen, and what comes next? Finding answers and understanding the events leading up to this incident is essential for those affected.

In accidents like this, every detail matters. The trucking company may hold critical information that could shed light on the seconds before the collision. Records related to the driver’s work hours, training, and truck performance—such as speed and braking at the time of impact—are all relevant pieces of evidence. Additionally, if available, dashcam footage could provide valuable insight into what went wrong. However, companies sometimes hesitate to share this information openly, especially during an investigation. Legal tools, such as depositions, can be instrumental in obtaining these facts and uncovering the full truth.

Accidents like these, incredibly when preventable, should not occur. The family affected by this tragedy deserves answers, which may provide them with some sense of closure. Our thoughts are with them during this incredibly difficult time, and we hope they receive the support and assistance needed to navigate the aftermath and obtain the clarity they deserve.
