Julie Starkey Killed in a Semi-truck Loose Tire Crash on Interstate 69 in Allen County, Indiana

ALLEN COUNTY, IN – A woman died after a semi-truck lost a tire and crossed over the median into her lane of traffic. The incident happened on Interstate 69 on Monday afternoon.

According to reports, a southbound semi-truck lost a tire from its trailer. The loose tire either struck a woman operating a three-wheeled motorcycle or caused her to swerve, leading her vehicle to crash into the cable median.

The woman has been identified as Julie Anne Starkey, 60, of Auburn.

No further updates have been provided.

The cause of the loose tire must be investigated

When a semi-truck loses a tire on the highway, it’s not just bad luck – it’s often a sign of neglect. Julie Anne Starkey’s tragic death demands answers, and authorities and professionals need to dig deep to uncover the truth.

Loose tire accidents are more common than you might think, and they’re almost always preventable. We’ve seen firsthand how devastating these incidents can be. In one case we handled in Texas, a detached tire crashed through a windshield, killing the driver instantly. Another case in Illinois saw a tire fly off a car and strike a truck driver, with fatal consequences.

So why do these accidents keep happening? It often boils down to corner-cutting on maintenance. Trucking companies and drivers have a responsibility to regularly inspect and maintain their vehicles. When they skip these crucial steps, lives are put at risk.

Getting to the bottom of what happened isn’t always straightforward. Trucking companies may be reluctant to share maintenance records or inspection logs. That’s where legal tools come in. Through depositions and thorough investigations, we can piece together the events leading up to the accident.

Was the tire properly secured? Had it been showing signs of wear that were ignored? Was the truck overloaded, putting extra stress on its components? These are the questions that need answering.

For the surviving family, finding these answers won’t bring her back. But it could prevent other families from suffering the same heartbreak. It’s also about holding those responsible accountable and pushing for better safety standards across the industry.

As this investigation unfolds, we hope the surviving family gets the support and clarity they need during this difficult time.
