Christopher Rains Killed in an Accident with a Semi-truck Near Elk City, Oklahoma

Beckham County, OK – A crash between a semi-truck and a 2000 Ford Crown Victoria resulted in the death of one person. The incident occurred Thursday night at the intersection of OK-6 and OK-152 just south of Elk City.

According to reports, a 2016 Volvo semi-truck was traveling westbound when it failed to stop at a stop sign. The large truck collided with a Ford Crown Victoria driven by 54-year-old Christopher Rains, striking the driver’s side of the car.

Emergency responders from the Elk City Fire Department arrived on the scene but were unable to save Rains, who was pronounced dead at the site. Herrera was unharmed.

Authorities detected the smell of alcohol on the truck driver, and authorities believe alcohol and failure to stop at the intersection were contributing factors in the crash.

Herrera has been taken into custody and faces charges of second-degree manslaughter, driving under the influence, and transporting an open container.

Justice requires all responsible to be held accountable for this preventable death.

Fatal accidents leave families searching for answers while picking up the pieces of a shattered life. The trucker’s reported alcohol use and failure to stop at a sign point to clear negligence that must be accounted for, but the wrongdoing may extend beyond just the driver.

If the trucking company knew about or should have known about the driver’s reckless behavior, they, too, must be held accountable. Trucking companies need to implement proper screening and monitoring processes to catch dangerous drivers before tragedy strikes. Were there previous incidents or complaints that were ignored?

It’s common for trucking companies and their insurers to try to minimize their liability by pushing for quick settlements to keep important information from the public. However, the family deserves to know exactly what happened and who all is responsible.
