James Roberts Killed in a Semi-Truck and Dump Truck Head-on Accident on Illinois Route 159 in Moro Township


Moro Township, Ill. –  A semi-truck driver died in a head-on crash with a dump truck. The incident happened Tuesday afternoon on Illinois Route 159 in Moro Township.

According to reports, James Roberts was driving southbound in a semi-truck loaded with rocks when a northbound dump truck, also hauling rocks, crossed the center line. The dump truck’s driver reportedly attempted to brake in response to a fuel tanker that had stopped in the northbound lanes to make a left turn into a driveway.

Roberts, 67, sustained fatal injuries from the collision.

No additional details have been released.

At-fault drivers need to be held accountable for this tragic loss

This tragic event leaves us with several important questions. Did the dump truck maintain a safe distance from the fuel tanker that had stopped to turn? Was the tanker stopped properly with adequate warning to other drivers? What caused the dump truck to lose control and cross the center line?

Basic traffic rules, such as keeping a safe following distance, are designed to protect everyone on the road. When these rules are ignored, it puts lives at risk. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) advises truck drivers to leave at least a four-second gap between their vehicle and the one ahead. Was this guideline followed in this case? If not, why?
