Experienced LaPorte Pipeline Explosion Attorneys at Ammons Law Firm

A pipeline explosion rocked LaPorte, Texas, on September 16, leading to highway closures, threats to nearby residences, and prompting evacuation and shelter-in-place orders for local residents, workers, and students.

Energy Transfer’s Natural Gas Liquids Pipeline Erupts in Flames

The LaPorte pipeline explosion occurred shortly before 10:00 a.m. in the 8700 block of Spencer Highway.

The explosion produced a massive fireball visible for miles. The flames spread rapidly, igniting smaller grass fires that emergency crews struggled to contain. Local media footage showed damage to some structures, with fire crews working to protect nearby homes.

Multiple agencies, including crews from Deer Park and LaPorte, responded to the scene. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported at this time.

Authorities Monitors Evacuations in Brookglen Neighborhood

The Energy Transfer pipeline explosion has forced the closure of Spencer Highway in both directions, with southbound lanes of East Boulevard also shut toward Spencer. Access to nearby Wal-Mart and HEB stores has been blocked, and authorities are urging motorists to avoid the area.

Authorities have ordered evacuations for residents and workers in the Brookglen neighborhood between Spencer and Fairmont Parkway and Luella to Canada Road. The SouthEast Texas Regional Advisory Council is preparing for the potential evacuation of an unspecified assisted living facility.

Local schools have implemented precautionary measures:

  • La Porte Independent School District has issued a modified shelter-in-place order, with students at Heritage Elementary School kept indoors and all outdoor activities canceled.
  • Deer Park Independent School District has canceled outdoor activities for the remainder of the school day.
  • San Jacinto College Central Campus students are being urged to shelter-in-place until further notice.
