Larry Dalzell and Randi Vandekieft  Die After Likely Exposure to Toxic Gas in Silo Accident in Brookings County, South Dakota


Brookings County, S.D. –  Two people lost their lives on Saturday after becoming trapped in an 80-foot silo near Volga, South Dakota.

According to reports, the workers were repairing a damaged roof on the silo when they became trapped inside for unknown reasons.

It is believed that the workers were overtaken by toxic gas inside the silo. Despite efforts from medical personnel, both workers were pronounced dead at the scene.

The victims have been identified as 51-year-old Larry Dalzell and 41-year-old Randi Vandekieft. Both worked for Heartland Tank, Inc.

Further investigation is needed to find answers and wrongdoing

Something went terribly wrong. Critical questions remain unanswered. The surviving families are left picking up pieces of information while navigating the aftermath of an unexpected loss. Authorities and trained professionals should continue to investigate to give the family a complete picture of what went wrong.
