Francisco Munoz Killed in a Tire Blowout Accident on US 287 West of Iowa Park in Wichita County, Texas

Wichita County, TX – A Wichita Falls man lost his life Friday night after his truck suffered a tire blowout. The incident happened on US 287, west of Iowa Park.

According to reports, Francisco Munoz was traveling northwest when his 2009 Ford F250 tire blew out, causing his truck to veer into the center median. The vehicle crossed through the cable barrier and into the path of oncoming traffic and had a head-on collision with a semi-truck.

Munoz, 24, was pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries sustained in the crash.

Unexpected tire blowouts need to be investigated

A tire blowout can leave even the most skilled driver unable to control the vehicle. What makes it even more dangerous is that it can happen without warning and through no fault of the driver. This is often the case when a blowout is caused by tire defects or improper installation.

A defective tire will show signs of poor bonding or sloppy construction. Poor bonding occurs when the layers of the tire have smooth patches caused by internal parts rubbing against each other. Sloppy construction happens when the tire’s internal components are not appropriately aligned, creating weak points that make it more prone to failure. Defective tires can blow out unexpectedly even when they are maintained properly. A tire manufacturer is responsible when a defective tire causes an accident.

Tire repair shops also have a duty to perform their work correctly. If they improperly repair or install a tire unsuited for the vehicle, they could share responsibility for the accident.

Only an inspection of the tire can reveal what went wrong. A look at the tire’s structure and the materials used can reveal whether it had defects.

Losing a loved one is never easy. The family has every right to know what caused their loved one to pass. My hope for the grieving family is that they find the answers they need and that any wrongdoers are held accountable.
