Semi-truck Drivers Zurab Bukhnikashvili Killed and Saio Peters Seriously Injured in Crash on Interstate 24 in Paducah, Kentucky

McCracken County, Ky. — A deadly semi-truck crash on Interstate 24 in McCracken County Saturday morning claimed one life and left another person critically injured. The accident involved two semi-tractor trailers.

According to reports, 67-year-old Saio Peters was driving eastbound on I-24 in a 2017 Freightliner when it collided with a stopped 2015 Volvo truck on the south shoulder.

The impact of the crash caused the Volvo to overturn onto its right side, landing on the driver, 61-year-old Zurab Bukhnikashvili, who was in the middle of repairing the truck.

Bukhnikashvili died at the scene.

The Freightliner then crashed into the center median cable barrier and caught fire. Peters sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to a hospital out of state for treatment.
