Accident Between Two Semi-trucks Cause Seven-Hour Closure on Highway 59 in Lufkin, Texas

Lufkin, TX — U.S. Highway 59 South has reopened following a major accident that caused a seven-hour traffic delay. The incident occurred early Wednesday morning and involved a tanker truck and an 18-wheeler hauling steel pipes.

According to reports, a tanker truck attempted to use a northbound crossover and crossed into the path of an oncoming 18-wheeler carrying 25-foot steel pipes.

Following the impact, the 18-wheeler’s load was scattered, and the driver became briefly trapped inside the damaged cab. Despite two steel pipes penetrating the cab, the driver was able to walk to the stretcher and was transported to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The other driver involved was uninjured.
