Texas Man Timothy Koehn Injured in an Accident with a Semi-truck on Highway 54 in Meade County, Kansas

Meade County, Kan. — A semi-truck and a passenger vehicle collided Saturday afternoon on Highway 54 half a mile west of Plains, injuring one person.

According to reports, Timothy Koehn, 21, of Texhoma, Texas, was driving a 2013 Subaru eastbound on Highway 54 and had stopped, waiting to turn when a 2006 Kenworth semi failed to yield and struck the rear of the Subaru.

Koehn was transported to Southwest Medical Center with suspected serious injuries.

No additional details have been released.

Commercial trucks cannot ignore traffic rules without accountability

No one should have to endure life-changing injuries, overwhelming medical bills, or emotional and physical suffering because of someone else’s negligence. It’s unfair when responsible drivers who follow the rules are seriously injured due to the reckless actions of another driver — especially when the at-fault driver is operating a much larger and heavier vehicle capable of causing significant harm.

Unfortunately, these preventable accidents happen far too often. In 2018 alone, 226 deaths were caused by trucks failing to yield (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration). Truck drivers who violate traffic safety laws and cause serious injuries or fatalities must be held accountable for their negligence.

In this incident, the injured person clearly deserves justice and compensation for the truck driver’s failure to follow safety protocols. While the trucking company may try to deflect blame, many of these accidents are caused by driver mistakes or mechanical failures due to improper maintenance. Skilled professionals can prove these are not valid defenses and ensure the truck driver is held responsible. When all is said and done, no one should have to suffer life-changing injuries because of someone else’s mistakes.
