Trucker Seriously Injured in Love’s Parking Lot Accident in La Salle County, Illinois

La Salle County, Ill. – A 66-year-old truck driver escaped death after being run over by a semi-truck in a Love’s Travel Stop parking lot. The incident happened Wednesday before 6 p.m.

According to reports, the trucker was walking into the store to pay for fuel and was struck by another semi. The truck ran over the driver, causing serious injuries to both legs.

A sheriff’s deputy who was the first on the scene applied a tourniquet to the injured trucker’s legs, stabilizing him before paramedics arrived. Utica Assistant Fire Chief Drew Partain credited the deputy’s quick actions with saving the man’s life.

The injured trucker was airlifted to a nearby hospital, where he is expected to recover from his injuries.

Truck drivers have a right to do their jobs safely

Truckers often seek rest stops as a place of safety and relief during their long trips, not as places where they expect to get hurt.

Truck drivers spend long hours on the road, far from family and friends, and rely on their physical well-being to continue doing their jobs. When serious injuries occur—like the one the trucker in this incident experienced—it leads to physical, emotional, and financial burdens. No truck driver should endure this because of another person’s negligence. Those responsible must be held accountable as the law sees fit.

Based on the details, the trucker was doing something as routine as paying for fuel. So, what possibly went wrong here? Was the other driver distracted? Fatigued? Were the mirrors on the semi-truck properly functioning? Many accidents like this have occurred due to such factors, which is why a thorough investigation is necessary to determine what led to this tragic event and who is responsible for the trucker’s suffering.

We have handled many cases where a distracted driver, texting or eating, failed to react to their environment promptly, causing catastrophic results.

The injured trucker deserves justice, and if negligence or wrongdoing is found, compensation for their suffering. I hope they fully recover and find the answers and assistance they need to move forward.
