Adam Ferguson Killed in a Semi-truck Accident After a Tire Blowout on U.S. Highway 285 in Reeves County, Texas

REEVES COUNTY, Texas — A collision involving three 18-wheelers resulted in one fatality Sunday morning on U.S. Highway 285.

The crash occurred when a northbound Kenworth semi-truck’s defective front tire caused the driver to lose control and veer into the southbound lanes. The vehicle struck a southbound Freightliner hauling a trailer head-on. After the initial impact, the Kenworth continued forward and sideswiped a second Kenworth truck that had been following behind the Freightliner.

The driver of the northbound truck, identified as 26-year-old Adam Ferguson of Canute, Oklahoma, was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities confirmed he had been wearing a seatbelt.

Tire failures on semi-trucks are often caused by defects in the tire. If that happened here, the tire manufacturer must be held accountable for the death of this young man

Imagine driving an 80,000-pound semi-truck at 65 MPH down the highway. You’ve checked your tires, maintained proper pressure, and watched for road hazards. Nothing seems wrong. Then, without warning, your front tire explodes. In an instant, you lose control of the massive vehicle. Your truck veers sharply, heading toward cars filled with families. You fight the wheel with everything you have, praying you can stop the truck safely. This is exactly what happens when a defective tire is installed on a semi-truck.

We see this happening all across the country. Tire manufacturers are putting ticking time bombs on our highways that kill innocent drivers. We’re representing families in South Carolina whose loved one died when his front tire failed on the highway. The tire looked fine, but the tread separated because of poor bonding during manufacturing. In Arizona, we’re helping a cement truck driver who became permanently disabled when his defective front tire failed, causing him to lose control and roll into the shoulder.

Manufacturers who make these dangerous tires must face consequences. When we inspect failed tires, we often find obvious defects that should have been caught before the tire left the factory. These aren’t just accidents – they’re preventable tragedies caused by cutting corners in production. Every trucker deserves to know the tires on their rig won’t suddenly fail while they’re driving.

For families who lose a loved one in a tire blowout, answers matter. They need to know if a manufacturing defect caused the crash. The tire makers won’t admit fault willingly, but a proper investigation can reveal the truth. If a defective tire caused the death, the family deserves both answers and justice.
