Dakoda and Nancy Bennefield Killed in an Accident with a Box Truck on Highway 21 in Nacogdoches, Texas

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Two people were killed Friday following a collision between a pickup truck and a box truck on Highway 21. Officers were called to the 4000 block of East Main Street after multiple reports of a serious crash.

Authorities said Dakoda Bennefield, 27, of Nacogdoches, was driving eastbound in a pickup truck with 54-year-old Nancy Michelle Bennefield as a passenger when an Isuzu box truck traveling west swerved into the eastbound lane to avoid a stopped vehicle, crashing into the pickup truck.

Dakoda Bennefield was pronounced dead at the scene. Nancy Bennefield was transported to a hospital, where she later died from her injuries.

The surviving family deserves answers and justice

An ordinary drive should never turn deadly like it did here. A family is now left to grieve the loss of two loved ones due to no fault of their own.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) requires commercial trucks to maintain a safe stopping distance. So why didn’t that happen here? Was this a case of a distracted driver? Following too closely? Speed?
