Audi Recalls Defective e-tron GT Models Due to Risk of Injury or Death


HERNDON, VA — Audi has announced a safety recall affecting 3,773 of its 2022–2023 e-tron GT and RS e-tron GT electric vehicles due to a defect that could prevent the front passenger airbag from deploying in the event of a crash.

The recall addresses an issue with the passenger seat’s weight sensor, which is designed to determine whether to activate the airbag based on the occupant’s weight. Audi reports that an improperly installed wiring connection may cause the sensor to malfunction, potentially deactivating the airbag even when an adult is seated.

This defect poses a serious safety risk, as the front passenger airbag is critical in protecting occupants during a collision. If the airbag fails to deploy when needed, the passenger faces an increased risk of injury or death.
