Oscar Gonzalez Killed in an Accident with a Semi-truck on County Road 1258 and County Road 77 in Corpus Christi, Texas

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A fatal crash involving a pickup truck and an 18-wheeler occurred early Monday near Taft, resulting in the death of a 43-year-old local man. The incident happened at County Road 77 and County Road 1258 intersection.

Authorities reported that a 2015 Peterbilt tractor-trailer driver failed to yield the right of way, colliding with a 2015 GMC Sierra driven by Oscar Gonzalez. The collision forced both vehicles off the roadway.

Gonzalez was pronounced dead at the scene.

No further information is currently available.

Truck Drivers must adhere to traffic rules

It is devastating to learn that a person was following all the safety rules on the road and another driver decides to ignore them, leading to a catastrophic collision that will change a family’s life forever.

Failure to yield is one of the main reasons large trucks cause fatalities (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety). In 2018, trucks failing to yield caused 226 deaths (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration). Truck drivers who ignore safety road laws and cause devastating wrecks need to be held accountable for their negligent actions.

We are currently handling a case in Kentucky where a driver backed his truck into a parking lot, blocking both lanes of traffic. The truck driver admitted he saw an oncoming vehicle with the right of way yet assumed the driver would stop and wait. This assumption resulted in the death of the man, leaving a child without a father and parents without their son.

In another case, we are representing a victim in Falls County, Texas, who suffered severe burns after a semi-truck merged onto Highway 6 without looking for traffic. The truck driver pulled their massive Freightliner directly into the path of our client, who was already driving safely on the highway, causing a crash so violent that one of the vehicles caught fire. The evidence shows the truck driver completely disregarded basic safety rules about merging onto highways.

A person lost their life because of a truck that failed to follow simple traffic rules. The surviving family here deserves answers, justice, and compensation for their loss.

May they find the answers and guidance they need to move forward.
