Volvo Recalls Thousands of Plug-In Hybrid Vehicles Over Potential Fire Risk


Volvo Cars has issued a recall affecting 7,483 plug-in hybrid vehicles in the United States due to a potential safety hazard. The recall impacts several popular models, including the 2020-2021 S90 sedan, the 2022 V90 wagon, and the 2020-2022 S60 sedan, V60 wagon, XC60 SUV, and XC90 SUV.

The issue arises when the vehicle is fully charged and parked, potentially causing a short circuit within the battery module. Volvo’s internal investigation revealed a production deviation that may lead to thermal runaway, increasing the risk of a fire.

According to documents from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the affected vehicles were manufactured with LG’s high-voltage battery modules and were built between June 3, 2019, and November 30, 2021.
