Worker Killed in a Semi-truck Accident in a Work Zone on Interstate 77 in Charleston, West Virginia

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – A West Virginia Parkways Authority worker was killed Monday morning after being hit by a tractor-trailer in a work zone along the southbound lanes of Interstate 77, just south of Charleston.

The incident occurred while crews were performing asphalt repairs. According to Parkway officials, the worker, who was in his 20s and had been with the agency for several years, was alongside other crew members when a tractor-trailer attempted to avoid the active work zone.

While maneuvering, the trailer veered into the work area and struck the worker. He was pronounced dead shortly after the collision.

The man’s name has not yet been released.

Affected parties deserve justice and compensation

This crash was entirely preventable. Failing to adjust or anticipate changes in traffic conditions is dangerous and inexcusable, especially for a commercial driver. Sadly, incidents like this are becoming more common. We often see large trucks disregarding basic traffic rules, leading to serious accidents with devastating consequences.

We’ve handled cases all across the nation where a simple mistake—a moment of distraction, driving too fast, or brake failure—caused devastating crashes. In these cases, trucking companies were held responsible for the suffering they caused.

A personal injury lawyer’s job is to ensure that surviving families receive the help and financial compensation they deserve. May those impacted by this tragic incident find the support and guidance they need.
