Worker Injured in Northern California Power Plant Explosion Accident

Humboldt County, Calif. – A worker was hospitalized following an explosion at the Scotia biomass power plant in Humboldt County. The incident occurred Monday morning when a pressure buildup caused a fireball to erupt inside the facility.

According to local reports, the employee attempted to clear a blockage in equipment connected to a boiler when the pressure release triggered the explosion. The intense heat burned the worker, reportedly melting his beard. To escape the flames, the worker leaped approximately 10 feet from a catwalk, sustaining injuries from the fall.

Authorities reported that the worker suffered first- and second-degree burns covering 10% of his body. He was transported to a hospital for treatment of his burns and injuries related to the fall.
