Alton Stotler Killed After Being Electrocuted in a Work Accident in the 300 block of Brown Street in Lakeview, Ohio

LAKEVIEW, Ohio — A man was killed Thursday morning while repairing a building in Lakeview after a boom lift struck a live electrical wire.

Emergency crews responded to the 300 block of Brown Street. The worker, identified by Washington Township Police as 48-year-old Alton Stotler of Lakeview, died at the scene from his injuries.

No further information has been released.

Families deserve answers when worker safety may not be a priority

It’s never easy to read about a person having their life cut short while making a living, especially when most work-related fatalities are preventable. So what went wrong here and why?

Several factors can lead to workplace electrocutions. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) sets stringent guidelines to reduce such risks by emphasizing the importance of comprehensive training and strict adherence to safety procedures. These measures include vigilance around live wires, ensuring equipment is powered down before maintenance, and regular upkeep of tools and machinery. Were these protocols adequately followed at this site?

A detailed investigation is necessary to evaluate if the appropriate safety measures were implemented at the time of the incident. If it is found that negligence or a failure to enforce safety standards contributed to this man’s death, those responsible must be held accountable.

Surviving families of work-related accidents deserve answers on why their loved ones never made it home. May Mr. Stotler’s family find the answers and guidance they need.
