Firefly Fuel Recalls Defective 32-Ounce Safe & Green Fuel Bottles Due to Risk of Serious Injury or Death


Mount Prospect, Ill. — Firefly Fuel is recalling its 32-ounce Safe & Green fuel bottles after federal safety officials determined the product poses a serious risk of poisoning to young children and violates multiple safety standards.

The recalled product contains hydrocarbons that must be sold in child-resistant packaging in accordance with the Poison Prevention Packaging Act. Regulators state that the included nozzle applicator is not child-resistant and, when used in place of the safety cap, can allow children to access the fuel. If ingested, hydrocarbons can enter the lungs, causing chemical pneumonia, severe lung damage, or death.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission also found that the torch fuel violates the Federal Hazardous Substances Act because the bottle is labeled “Non-Toxic” despite containing hazardous material.

The recall applies to transparent bottles with a white cap and nozzle applicator labeled with the “Firefly” brand and “Safe & Green” in large green font. Other phrases on the label include “The One Fuel,” “Readily Biodegradable,” “Odorless,” “Bright Flame,” and “Certified Kosher.”
