Continental Tire Recalls Defective 542 General Altimax RT45 Tires Due to Risk of Tread Loss and Air Pressure Failure


WASHINGTON, D.C. – Continental Tire the Americas has issued a recall of 542 General Altimax RT45 tires, citing a manufacturing issue that could lead to sudden air loss or tread separation.

The recall affects tires in size 235/60 R18 107H, produced between August 4 and August 10, 2024.  The company is recalling all 542 units from the affected production window.

According to the manufacturer, the defect stems from possible over-curing during the manufacturing process. This condition could cause the tire’s tread to separate or lead to a sidewall break in the tire’s carcass, resulting in rapid air loss. In some cases, a belt edge separation could also cause partial or complete loss of the tread.
