TTI Outdoor Power Equipment Recalls Defective RYOBI Electric Pressure Washers Due to Serious Risk of Injury


ANDERSON, S.C. — TTI Outdoor Power Equipment has issued a recall for certain RYOBI electric pressure washers after reports that the machines pose a risk of serious injury. Officials say the pressure washers’ capacitors can overheat and burst, sending parts flying and creating a projectile hazard for users and bystanders.

TTI has received 135 incident reports of overheating capacitors, including 41 instances of explosion. Thirty-two injuries have been reported, including cuts and fractures to fingers, hands, faces, and eyes.

The recall affects RYOBI brushless electric models RY142300 (2300 PSI) and RY142711VNM (2700 PSI). The units are green with a spray nozzle, a detergent tank with a blue cap, and accessory storage. “Ryobi” is printed on the front of the equipment. Recalled units fall within specific serial number ranges printed on the data plate located on the motor housing.

The pressure washers were sold nationwide at Home Depot stores, Direct Tools Factory Outlet locations, and online at homedepot.com and directtoolsoutlet.com between July 2017 and June 2024 for $300 to $400.
