Tabletop Fire Pit Explosion Accident Leaves One Person Seriously Burned and Injured in Avon, Massachusetts

AVON, Mass. — A tabletop fire pit fueled by isopropyl alcohol exploded inside an Avon home on Thursday, leaving a resident with third-degree burns to their arm, hand, and abdomen.

The Avon Fire Department stated that emergency crews responded after the device suddenly ignited, causing the explosion. Officials warned that isopropyl alcohol-fueled tabletop fire pits are dangerous and should not be used indoors.

“These products have been linked to numerous injuries and deaths across the country,” the department said in a statement.

Flame jetting can occur if a small, nearly invisible flame remains during refueling, igniting vapors and causing a sudden, violent burst of fire. These devices can burn at temperatures exceeding 1,600°F, leaving little time to react when something goes wrong.

Consumers have the right to know the dangers associated with these products. People who have been seriously burned by these products deserve answers, justice, and compensation for their life-altering injuries.
