Truck Accident Attorney: Woman airlifted after hit-and-run crash on I-15 near Barstow

YERMO, Calif. — A woman suffered serious injuries Sunday night after being struck by a semi-truck while stopped on the shoulder of northbound Interstate 15.

According to reports, the woman had pulled over in a Honda Civic after hitting tire debris in the roadway and was outside the vehicle when the truck collided with the car from behind and the woman.

The driver of the semi did not stop after the crash, authorities said.

Mercy Air transported her to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton with traumatic injuries.

Truck Drivers Must Be Held Accountable When Basic Safety Rules Are Ignored

Traffic ahead can change in an instant — from debris in a lane to a vehicle or person stopped on the shoulder, as motorists, we have to adjust to unpredictable events. Truck drivers in particular are expected to anticipate these hazards and respond safely by maintaining a safe following distance, staying alert to the roadway and their mirrors, reducing speed for adverse conditions, and exercising caution near stopped vehicles or pedestrians. When these basic safety rules are ignored, the consequences can be catastrophic, as seen here.

Commercial truck drivers know the importance of maintaining a safe distance and anticipating the unexpected ahead. Yet, time and again, we see devastating crashes like this one caused by truckers ignoring these fundamental safety practices.

Now, in this incident, we have an injured person who will likely face medical expenses, financial losses, trauma, and injuries they never expected from a routine drive on the road. They will need a lot of support to get their life back to the way it was before the crash.

This is why large trucks cannot disregard traffic safety rules, and when they do, they should be held accountable for the harmful consequences of their actions.

Unfortunately, when crashes like these occur, trucking companies often work quickly to limit their responsibility and downplay the outcome. Having experienced legal representation is important in overcoming these tactics and protecting the injured party’s rights.

Those who are wrongfully injured in a truck accident deserve answers. Truck accident lawyers can help hold the responsible party accountable.

We hope the injured person makes a full recovery.
