Amax Recalls Allegedly Defective Bostitch Electric Pencil Sharpeners Due to Shock Hazard


EAST GREENWICH, R.I. — Amax has announced a recall of select Bostitch electric pencil sharpeners after discovering that internal electrical components can energize the sharpener, posing a risk of electric shock to users.

The recall includes Bostitch QuietSharp Glow Classroom and Super Pro Commercial electric pencil sharpeners. Both models feature a silver body, six sharpening openings on a black front dial, and a removable shavings tray. The QuietSharp Glow Classroom model (EPS11HC) includes date codes between 4714 and 3215, while the Super Pro Commercial model (EPS14HC) includes date codes between 1612 and 2715.

The affected model numbers can be found on a sticker on the bottom of the sharpener, and the date codes are visible when the shavings tray is removed.

There has been at least one report of a user receiving an electric shock.
