Motorcyclist Killed in Accident with a Tractor-Trailer on Interstate 285 near South Cobb Drive in Georgia

COBB COUNTY, Georgia — A motorcyclist was killed Monday afternoon following a collision with a tractor-trailer at a busy roadway entrance in Cobb County. According to the Cobb County Police, the crash occurred at the southbound entrance ramp to Interstate 285 near South Cobb Drive.

Reports say a white 2020 Freightliner Cascadia tractor-trailer was traveling along South Cobb Drive when it turned onto the interstate entrance ramp. During the turn, the truck entered the path of a yellow 2005 Suzuki SV650 motorcycle.

The motorcycle struck the side of the tractor-trailer, and the rider sustained fatal injuries.

The motorcyclist’s identity has not been released.

Accountability After a Fatal Truck–Motorcycle Crash

So tragic. We know a motorcycle is no match for a semi-truck. Semi-truck drivers know this as well. They understand the size and power of the vehicles they operate and the danger that creates for exposed riders. That is why they are required to follow strict safety protocols on our roadways.

So what went wrong here? Was the truck driver able to see the motorcycle before turning? Was proper caution used when entering the ramp? Did speed, visibility, or distraction play a role in the moments leading up to the crash?

A full investigation can determine what the truck driver saw, when they saw the motorcycle, and whether they had time to react. Evidence such as skid marks, dash-cam footage, and data from the truck’s onboard systems can help show whether this collision was avoidable and where responsibility lies. This process can also help ensure that key evidence is identified, preserved, and examined.

A family has been left without their loved one. In a moment of profound loss, they deserve clear answers about what went wrong and whether this crash could have been prevented.

Those answers will come only when all relevant facts are brought to light.
