Two Injured in a Freightliner Truck Tire Blowout Accident on Interstate-75 in Houston County, Georgia

HOUSTON COUNTY, Ga. — Two people were taken to the hospital Tuesday afternoon after a Freightliner truck crashed on Interstate 75 following a tire blowout.

Troopers said the crash happened while the truck was traveling northbound on I-75. A front left tire reportedly failed, causing the driver to lose control. The truck veered across the northbound lanes, struck a guardrail, and crossed the median into the southbound side of the interstate.

The truck came to rest with its trailer blocking all southbound lanes of traffic.

Emergency responders transported the driver and a passenger from the truck to a hospital for treatment. The extent of their injuries has not been released.

When a Commercial Truck Tire Fails, Accountability Matters

Truck drivers deserve to be safe, too. This starts with ensuring that before they reach the roadways, the trucks they travel in have well-maintained tires free of defects. So what went wrong here?

Sadly, we have handled many cases like this one, where an 18-wheeler traveling across the country suffered a sudden tire blowout, leading to a catastrophic crash where the driver was seriously injured and, in some cases, even killed. We have noticed a pattern in many of these incidents: a defective tire that should never have left the manufacturer.

Tire defect cases are often complex. Manufacturers frequently attempt to shift blame to the truck driver or the trucking company, pointing to vehicle control or maintenance practices. That can be misleading. When a tire fails due to a defect, responsibility may lie with the manufacturer rather than with the driver.

It takes attorneys and legal teams well-versed in tire defects to help determine whether a defective tire caused the tire blowout.

In this crash, only an investigation can determine whether a defective tire played a role. If a defect caused the tire failure and the driver and passenger suffered serious injuries as a result, they may have the right to hold the responsible manufacturer accountable for the harm they’ve suffered.

Our hope is that the injured individuals will make a full and fast recovery.
