WSP Arrests Semi-Truck Driver Following Fatal Three-Vehicle Accident on SR-167 in Auburn, Washington

AUBURN, Wash. —A three-vehicle collision near the SR-18 interchange left one driver dead and resulted in the arrest of a semi-truck operator on suspicion of vehicular homicide.

Troopers reported that a semi-truck struck a passenger car from behind, causing the vehicle to collide with a pickup truck ahead. The driver of the car died at the scene.

WSP stated that the semi-truck driver was taken into custody. No additional details have been released.

The family deserves justice and answers after a fatal semi-truck crash

We don’t have all the details except that a semi-truck rear-ended a passenger car and pushed it into another vehicle, and now a life has been lost. What caused this to happen? This is a serious question that needs to be answered beyond what the initial police report finds.

Crashes like this rarely happen by chance. They often stem from preventable mistakes, driver error, mechanical issues arising from poor maintenance, and, too often, a company culture that does not prioritize safety.

But drivers and trucking companies will not readily admit to their failures. After handling cases like this for decades, we have seen again and again that they try to shift blame rather than acknowledge their own mistakes. That is not only unfair but also unjust. Commercial trucks must be operated with heightened caution and properly inspected before hitting the road. When this does not happen, they should be held accountable.

Collisions like this bring many tears, and an arrest is only the beginning. While it is a step in the right direction that the truck driver was taken into custody, it does not resolve the harm that was done.

After a fatal truck accident, the deceased’s family deserves the maximum justice the law allows. Justice for the life that was taken. Justice for the financial strain that arrives without warning. Justice for the loss of security at the very moment funeral costs and other expenses begin to pile up. And above all, justice for the loss of companionship: of a husband, a wife, a mother, a father, a daughter, or a son taken too soon.

May the family here find the answers they need.
