Jordan Dyer and Shane Fields Killed in Accident with a Semi-truck on U.S. 60 in Daviess County, Kentucky

Daviess County, Ky. — A crash involving a semitrailer and a pickup truck on U.S. 60 East near Hawes Boulevard claimed two lives Friday morning.

Authorities reported that the semitrailer was hauling rolled aluminum coils and attempted to cross U.S. 60 from Hawes Boulevard. At the same time, a pickup truck towing a trailer carrying a Bobcat brand tractor was traveling westbound on U.S. 60.

“The semitrailer tried to cross the intersection, and the pickup was unable to stop,” said one witness. The impact caused severe damage to the pickup truck, dislodging the Bobcat and some aluminum coils.

One person was pronounced dead at the scene, while a second victim succumbed to injuries after being transported to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital.

The surviving families deserve justice and compensation for the unexpected passing of their loved ones.

It is unjust when a person follows all the safety rules on the road and another driver decides to ignore them, leading to a catastrophic collision. Being a good driver means following essential safety practices, such as yielding when required. This is especially important for truck drivers, who have a heightened responsibility to adhere to these rules, given the size and impact of their vehicles. When a driver fails to follow the rules, they (and their company) must be held responsible.

We are currently handling a case in Kentucky where a truck driver backed his truck into a parking lot, blocking both lanes of traffic. The truck driver admitted he saw an oncoming vehicle with the right of way yet assumed the driver would stop and wait. This assumption resulted in the death of the man, leaving a child without a father and parents without their son. Something needs to change, or these preventable crashes will continue to happen.

The surviving families here deserve answers, justice, and compensation for their loss. May they find the answers and guidance they need to move forward.
