Joseph Amos Killed in a Possible Hit-and-Run Accident with a Semi-Truck on Interstate 10 in Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana

LAKE CHARLES, La. – A Lafayette man was killed Wednesday afternoon in a crash involving a semi-truck on Interstate 10 near Lake Charles.

Preliminary findings indicate that Joseph Amos was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado in the right lane while an 18-wheeler was traveling in the center lane. As the semi-truck merged right, Amos swerved onto the shoulder and briefly slowed down. It remains unclear whether the two vehicles made contact. Amos attempted to accelerate past the 18-wheeler but lost control, causing the Chevrolet to rotate off the roadway and strike a tree.

Amos was pronounced dead at the scene.

Troopers have identified the semi-truck, and its driver may have potential charges pending.

The surviving family deserves justice and compensation for the unexpected passing of their loved ones

This was a wholly preventable crash that never should have occurred. Unfortunately, we are seeing this pattern of negligence happen all across the nation.

We recently took on a case involving a terrifying highway crash in Texas caused by a reckless truck driver. While making an improper lane change on Highway 59, the tractor-trailer struck a Toyota Corolla, forcing it off the road and causing it to overturn. The violent crash left our client with severe injuries and lasting trauma.

This accident was entirely preventable. The truck driver failed to maintain their lane, disregarded traffic laws, and put lives at risk. Even worse, the trucking company neglected to train and supervise its drivers properly, allowing dangerous behavior to go unchecked. Now, they are trying to avoid responsibility.

Commercial drivers and their employers must be held accountable for not following fundamental safety rules. Trucking companies must train their drivers and enforce consequences when safety protocols are violated.

The family deserves justice and answers for the loss of their loved one. May they receive the help they need to do so.
