Joseph Peggs Killed After Skid Steer Accident in Milton, Indiana

Milton, Ind. –  A man died after being pinned beneath a skid steer. The incident happened Wednesday afternoon in the 100 block of East North Street in Milton.

Emergency crews found 57-year-old Joseph Peggs trapped beneath an overturned skid steer. They freed Peggs and administered medical aid before transporting him to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

No further details are available at this time.

Fatal work accidents must be investigated

Skid steers are powerful machines that should operate predictably and safely when used as intended. However, mechanical and electronic failures can turn these essential pieces of equipment into uncontrollable hazards.

Our firm is currently investigating two concerning cases involving heavy equipment failures. In one case, a skid steer began moving without operator input, ultimately crushing a nearby worker. In another, an experienced forklift operator was severely injured when their equipment unexpectedly tipped during a routine operation despite following all proper protocols.

These types of incidents raise serious questions about equipment design and stability. Heavy equipment like skid steers and forklifts can weigh several tons. When manufacturers cut corners on design or fail to implement proper safety features, these machines become deadly hazards. Safety cannot be an afterthought when designing equipment capable of causing such devastating harm.

The family of the victim deserves to know whether this tragedy could have been prevented through better equipment design or maintenance. While no legal action can undo their loss, holding manufacturers accountable for unsafe equipment helps prevent future accidents and provides some measure of justice for those affected.
