Judy Carr Seriously Injured in a Rollover Accident on Interstate 70 in Kansas City, Kansas

Kansas City, Kan. — A rollover crash in Wyandotte County left one person seriously injured, according to authorities. The incident happened near the Interstate 70 and Interstate 635 interchange on Wednesday evening.

Officials reported that a 2022 Ford utility vehicle traveling east veered off the roadway, entered a ditch, and became airborne before landing front-first in another ditch along southbound I-635. The vehicle then rolled over and came to rest on its roof.

A passenger, identified as 74-year-old Judy Carr, sustained serious injuries and was transported to the University of Kansas Hospital for treatment.

Authorities confirmed that both occupants of the vehicle were wearing seat belts.

Vehicle defects sometimes cause rollover crash injuries

When people hear about a rollover crash, they often assume it was just a tragic accident with no legal options. But why should someone who is properly wearing a seatbelt suffer serious injuries or even lose their life in such a crash?

Automakers know that rollovers happen and that they can cause severe harm. That’s why they are responsible for designing vehicles that protect occupants when these accidents occur. Unfortunately, some SUVs on the road today fail to provide that protection.

Safety features like seatbelts, airbags, and strong roof structures must function properly during rollovers. Seatbelts should keep passengers secure, airbags should deploy as designed, and the roof must remain intact to prevent crushing. When these systems fail, the vehicle is defective—and people pay the price.

For those seriously injured in a rollover, it’s critical to investigate whether a defect played a role. No one should suffer life-changing injuries because a manufacturer failed to meet basic safety standards.

Manufacturers must be held accountable when their vehicles put lives at risk. A thorough inspection of the SUV involved in this crash can determine if a defect was a factor. If so, the injured and their families deserve justice and the compensation needed to rebuild their lives.

I hope the injured here fully recovers and finds the guidance she needs.
