LG Recalls 500,000 Electric Ranges Following 28 Reported House Fires


New York, NY — LG Electronics has issued a recall for 500,000 electric ranges following reports of at least 28 house fires and multiple injuries caused by unintended stove activation. Instead of refunds or replacements, affected customers will receive safety warning stickers.

The recall, announced by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), affects LG Slide-In and Freestanding Electric Ranges sold at major retailers such as Best Buy, Costco, and The Home Depot between 2015 and January 2025.

The CPSC reported 86 incidents involving “unintentional activation of the front-mounted knobs,” including cases triggered by human contact and pets. This flaw poses a significant fire risk.

Affected consumers who contact LG through the company’s recall website will receive a warning label and detailed placement instructions. The label reminds users to activate the range’s lock feature when not in use, reducing the likelihood of accidental activation.

The CPSC advises owners to take additional precautions, including:

  • Keeping children and pets away from the range knobs,
  • Ensuring knobs are turned off before leaving home or going to bed, and
  • Avoid placing items on the stovetop when it’s not in use.

Consumers are encouraged to visit LG’s website or contact customer service to determine if their range is affected by the recall and obtain the safety label kit.
