Georgia Man Killed in a Rollover Accident in Dunn County, North Dakota

Dunn County, ND – A 31-year-old man from Georgia was killed Sunday evening when his pickup truck overturned in Dunn County. The North Dakota Highway Patrol reported that the crash occurred on 9B St. NW near 119M Ave NW.

The driver of a 2016 GMC Sierra was traveling west when the vehicle left the roadway and overturned into Crosby Creek.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities confirmed he was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

There are known issues with certain vehicles that leave people fatally or seriously injured in rollover crashes

Generally speaking, motorists wearing their seatbelt should not be killed in a rollover crash.  Manufacturers know that rollover crashes will happen and have a duty to build cars and trucks that can protect from serious injury during the rollover sequence. Unfortunately, we have handled over 300 rollover crashes where this did not happen, and the difference often comes down to the vehicle they were driving.

Every manufacturer should be required to build vehicles that protect passengers from serious injury. Unfortunately, defective vehicles that fail to do so are still on the road.

Safety features like seatbelts, airbags, and strong roof structures must work as intended during rollovers. Seatbelts should restrain occupants, airbags should deploy properly, and the roof must hold its shape to prevent crushing. When any of these systems fail, the vehicle is defective—and people suffer.

For those fatally injured in rollover accidents, it’s crucial to investigate whether a defect contributed to their injuries. No one should die due to a manufacturer’s failure to meet essential safety standards.

Manufacturers of defective vehicles must be held accountable and required to compensate those harmed by their negligence. The vehicle involved in this crash should be inspected by trained professionals to determine if it has any defects. If it is, the surviving family and the injured deserve justice and compensation needed to move forward after this devastating crash.
