Pedestrian Killed in a Two Semi-truck Accident on Interstate 84 Near Utah-Idaho Border

Snowville, Utah – A 48-year-old man was killed Thursday evening after being struck by two semi-trucks while walking along I-84 near the Utah-Idaho border.

According to the Utah Department of Public Safety, the man’s vehicle had broken down a short distance away, and he had spoken with a Utah Highway Patrol trooper at the scene of a separate crash involving a jackknifed semi. The man had requested a ride into town, and the trooper instructed him to wait in his vehicle until he could assist. Instead, the man continued walking past his car for several miles along the highway.

A passing semi-truck driver saw the pedestrian at the last moment and attempted to swerve, but the man was struck by the truck’s side mirror and knocked to the ground. A second semi, following closely behind, was unable to stop and struck him. Officials confirmed that he died from the impact.

Authorities have not yet released the man’s identity.

People injured or killed in semi-truck crashes deserve accountability and compensation for losses

Why did the semi-trucks fail to see the pedestrian? There are many missing pieces here as to what transpired.

In an instant, a moment of inattention or failure to respond to traffic conditions ahead of the road can result in devastating outcomes. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) recognizes this risk, which is why operating a semi-truck demands a higher standard than driving other vehicles on public roads. Truck drivers must not be distracted, impaired, fatigued, or in violation of traffic laws.

While we do not know exactly what happened in this incident, most accidents are preventable and caused by human error. While this is known, it can be challenging to prove. Liable parties will avoid responsibility at all costs, shifting blame to others. This is why it is important for injured or surviving families to find trained lawyers to help them navigate this process.

Surviving families need answers and deserve answers when they lose their loved ones in such a sudden and tragic manner. May the surviving family here find the help they need.
