Tree Trimmer Dies in Wood Chipper Accident in Ocean Ridge, Florida


Ocean Ridge, Fla. — An accident claimed the life of a tree trimming service worker near the Ocean Ridge Town Hall when he was caught in a woodchipper, authorities reported. The incident happened on Tuesday morning.

Officials stated that the contracted worker placed an object into the machine when he was caught and pulled in headfirst. The incident occurred within the first 30 minutes of the scheduled tree-trimming project conducted around the police station and town hall.

The worker was pronounced dead at the scene.

Ocean Ridge Town Manager Lynne Ladner confirmed that a contracted vendor was performing the tree maintenance work. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) was notified and responded.

Workplace Accidents Must be Investigated to Determine What Went Wrong

What a tragic accident: something went terribly wrong here. It is important to determine whether the machine was equipped with adequate safety features (such as guards) and whether the proper training was provided for operating such dangerous machinery. If the woodchipper proves defective or lacks safety features, employers and manufacturers can be held accountable for the harm caused.

The surviving family deserves to know whether this accident could have been prevented. If any wrongdoing or negligence is found, the responsible party should be held accountable.
